The rules of black tie

What makes a tuxedo a tuxedo

  • Silk-faced lapels

Satin or grosgrain on shawl, peak or notch lapels.

  • Braided trousers

A single stripe down each leg, no belt loops.

  • Cummerbund or waistcoat

Never both — it covers the waistband.

  • Bow tie, self-tied

    Matching the lapel facing.

The process

Six steps from conversation to collection

01

Consultation

We talk through the occasion, dress code, colour and style, and suggest models from the collection and our cloth books.

02

Measuring

Our tailor takes more than 30 measurements and studies your posture — shoulders, back, stance — to draft your own pattern.

03

Cloth & details

Choose the body cloth, lapel facing (satin, grosgrain, velvet), lapel style, buttons, pockets, braided trousers, waistcoat or cummerbund.

04

Cutting & fitting

The tuxedo is cut to your pattern. At the fitting we refine the silhouette, sleeve length and trouser break.

05

Finishing & collection

Finished, pressed and checked seam by seam. We show you how to wear and care for it.

06

Aftercare

We keep altering after collection, and your measurements stay on file for next time.

Behind the name

A Mon Amie house, built on a workshop since 1991

TUXEDO is the eveningwear name of Mon Amie — The King of Suit. Our tuxedos are cut and sewn by the same team behind every Mon Amie suit: more than fifty tailors with 10 to 25 years at the bench, working from the Hoàng Vy workshop founded in 1991.

Questions

Before you book

How is a tuxedo different from a suit?

A tuxedo is evening wear: satin or grosgrain-faced lapels, cloth-covered buttons, jetted pockets without flaps, trousers with a braid down each side, and usually a bow tie instead of a necktie. A suit is day and business wear, with lapels in the same cloth as the body and plain trousers.

How much does a bespoke tuxedo cost at Mon Amie?

Our made-to-measure tuxedos come in three cloth tiers: Essential VND 4.8 – 10M, Signature VND 10 – 20M and Heritage above VND 20M. Details such as velvet facings, a waistcoat or a pleated dress shirt change the price; we quote precisely after your consultation.

How long does it take? Can you work to a tight deadline?

It depends on the model, the cloth and the number of fittings; we plan backwards from the date you need it and confirm the delivery date when we measure you. If you are short on time, call 0888.111.118 and we will check cloth in stock and arrange the schedule.

Do I have to come to a showroom to be measured?

You can visit any of our five showrooms in Ho Chi Minh City. If that is not convenient, Mon Amie's at-home tailoring service (maydotainha.vn) sends a tailor to your home or office.

I only need it once — can I rent a tuxedo?

Yes. Mon Amie's rental service is at thuevest.vn: try it on in a showroom, have it altered to fit, with cleaning included. Rental prices depend on the model and are quoted at your fitting.

Can you dress the whole groomsmen party?

Yes. We tailor for the groom and his groomsmen around one concept — the same cloth, lapel, bow tie and pocket square — with each man cut to his own measurements.
