TUXEDOby Mon Amie

Bespoke tuxedo

A tuxedo drafted from your own pattern

Over thirty measurements, the cloth and facing you choose, and fittings until the line is right. This is how Mon Amie has tailored since 1991.

Six steps

From the first conversation to aftercare

01

Consultation

We talk through the occasion, dress code, colour and style, and suggest models from the collection and our cloth books.

02

Measuring

Our tailor takes more than 30 measurements and studies your posture — shoulders, back, stance — to draft your own pattern.

03

Cloth & details

Choose the body cloth, lapel facing (satin, grosgrain, velvet), lapel style, buttons, pockets, braided trousers, waistcoat or cummerbund.

04

Cutting & fitting

The tuxedo is cut to your pattern. At the fitting we refine the silhouette, sleeve length and trouser break.

05

Finishing & collection

Finished, pressed and checked seam by seam. We show you how to wear and care for it.

06

Aftercare

We keep altering after collection, and your measurements stay on file for next time.

Timing depends on the model, the cloth and the number of fittings — we plan backwards from the date you need it. Read the full process

Your choices

Every detail of black tie, decided with you

Silk-faced lapels

Shawl, peak or notch lapels faced in glossy satin or matte ribbed grosgrain — the defining mark of a tuxedo.

Covered buttons

Buttons covered in the lapel facing, usually a single button on single-breasted jackets. Double-breasted is the classic formal variation.

Jetted pockets

Hip pockets are jetted without flaps to keep the front clean; the breast pocket holds a white pocket square.

Braided trousers

Trousers in the jacket cloth with a satin or grosgrain braid down each leg, no turn-ups, a slightly higher rise and side adjusters or braces instead of a belt.

Cummerbund or waistcoat

Covers the waistband between jacket and shirt: a cummerbund with pleats facing up, or a low-cut evening waistcoat. One or the other, never both.

Dress shirt

White shirt with a pleated or piqué bib, turndown or wing collar, French cuffs and shirt studs in place of buttons.

The cloth

Italian and English cloth, chosen in hand

  • Vercelli

Italian cloth distributed by Mon Amie — smooth, and holds its shape under evening light.

  • Kevinlli

Super 120s–140s wools for tuxedos that keep their shape and wear well in a humid climate.

  • Vitale Barberis Canonico

A historic Italian mill; fine wool with a natural drape — our Heritage line.

  • Holland & Sherry

Fine English cloth, including the classic barathea and mohair qualities for eveningwear.

Facings: silk satin, grosgrain or velvet. Cloth books are at every showroom.
