About this tuxedo
This black tuxedo is double-breasted, the most classic shape in formal wear. Two rows of buttons sit in parallel and the fronts cross over each other, making the chest look fuller and more commanding. The peak lapels are faced in glossy black satin and sweep high toward the shoulder; between the matte black cloth and the satin there is a gentle contrast, enough to show this is formal wear and not an ordinary suit. The jacket is of moderate length with two flapped pockets and buttoned cuffs. The matching black trousers have a straight leg and a clear crease.
The double-breasted has always been for the most formal occasions: a wedding ceremony, a formal evening dinner or an important launch. Mon Amie suggests wearing it with a white front-placket shirt, a hand-tied black bow tie, and a white pocket square folded straight so that a thin line shows. Polished black lace-up shoes are the most correct choice, and you need nothing more.
The double-breasted cut is very particular about measurements, because even a slight discrepancy at the shoulder or waist makes the front wrinkle when it is fastened. For this reason Mon Amie always measures in person and makes a trial fitting first: the tailor determines the button position that suits your height, rebalances the lapel, and adjusts the front after each fitting until the jacket lies flat when fastened, without pulling or bunching.
