About this tuxedo
This is the black tie standard: a black three-piece tuxedo with a satin-faced peak lapel jacket, a black waistcoat buttoned high on the chest and plain black trousers. The jacket is cut close at the waist with a single button and a crisp lapel line running up to the top of the shoulder. A white silk pocket square sits beside a bright red boutonniere, the only accent on the pure black. Underneath are a plain-front white shirt and a medium black bow tie, with a hint of white cuff showing at the sleeve.
Mon Amie always recommends this suit for formal weddings, black-tie dinners, appreciation galas and award nights. All you need is a white shirt, a black bow tie, polished black shoes and thin black socks to be correctly dressed; the boutonniere can be changed to match the colour of the bride's wedding flowers, so that the two of you are in harmony in the photographs.
The difficulty of a three-piece suit lies in the waistcoat, which must fit the torso exactly, with no gaping at the neck and no showing below the hem of the jacket when you button it. Mon Amie measures your chest, waist and front length individually, drafts each piece, then makes a rough assembly and invites you to try it on several times to adjust the waistcoat, the jacket waist and the trouser hem so that it sits true.
